The Complete Snowmass Packing List: What to Bring for Every Season

Stonebridge Condominiums aerial view Snowmass packing guide

One of the most common questions we hear from guests preparing for their first Stonebridge stay is some version of: “What do I need to bring?” It’s a great question. Snowmass is a mountain resort town, and packing right can make the difference between a trip where you’re comfortable and ready for anything and one where you’re scrambling to the ski shop on day one.

We’ve put together this guide by season so you can pack smart no matter when you’re visiting.

Winter Packing List (December – March)

Winter in Snowmass is what the resort was built for, and the right gear makes every day on the mountain better.

On the slopes:

  • Ski jacket and ski pants (waterproof, insulated)
  • Base layers — a good merino wool or moisture-wicking synthetic set is worth every penny
  • Mid-layer fleece or down jacket for extra cold days
  • Ski socks (wool, not cotton — this matters more than most people realize)
  • Helmet
  • Goggles
  • Gloves or mittens — bring a second pair. Wet gloves are miserable.
  • Hand warmers for the lifts
  • Sunscreen — the elevation and reflection off the snow will catch you off guard

Off the mountain:

  • Warm après-ski layers (think: cozy sweater, casual pants, comfortable boots)
  • A light down jacket for walking between restaurants and the condo
  • Comfortable shoes you don’t mind wearing in slush

For the condo:

  • Your own favorite coffee or tea — our units have fully equipped kitchens and nothing beats a slow morning cup before heading out
  • Any specialty food items you love (grocery options in Snowmass Village are convenient but a limited selection)
  • A good book or two for evenings by the fireplace

Don’t stress about: Ski equipment — Stonebridge has an on-site ski concierge with rentals, demos, and equipment storage. Après-ski entertainment — it’s all right outside your door.

Spring Packing List (March – mid-April)

Spring skiing at Snowmass is genuinely one of the best-kept secrets in Colorado. The snow is soft and forgiving, the sun is strong, and the crowds thin out. Packing changes a bit from the heart of winter.

  • Lighter ski jacket or shell — temperatures climb fast on spring days
  • Sunglasses (critical — the spring sun off the snow is intense)
  • Sunscreen at SPF 50 or higher; reapply constantly
  • Lighter base layers — you’ll be warm out there
  • Layers you can strip off mid-run and stuff in a backpack

Spring weather can swing from bluebird and warm at noon to cold and blustery by 3:00 PM, so keep a mid-layer handy even on beautiful days.

Summer Packing List (June – August)

Summer in Snowmass is a completely different kind of adventure — mountain biking, hiking, concerts on Fanny Hill, and more activities than you can possibly fit into one trip.

For outdoor activities:

  • Hiking boots (broken in — blisters at altitude are no fun)
  • Athletic shorts and moisture-wicking shirts
  • A light rain jacket (afternoon thunderstorms are a daily reality in the Rockies from July onward)
  • Daypack for hikes
  • Trekking poles if you plan to go after any of the longer trails
  • Water bottle — hydration at 8,000+ feet is not optional

General summer packing:

  • Sunscreen and a hat with a brim; the UV index at this elevation is serious
  • Light layers for evenings; summer nights in the mountains get cool quickly
  • Bug spray for trail hikes and meadow sections
  • Comfortable casual clothes for village dining and the Thursday night free concerts

For families:

  • Helmets for the kids if they plan to bike (rentals are available but bringing your own is easier)
  • Swimwear for our heated outdoor pool

Fall Packing List (September – October)

Fall is the shoulder season and arguably the most underrated time to visit. The weather is ideal, the aspens are spectacular, and the trails are in perfect condition.

  • Layers, layers, layers — fall weather in Snowmass swings dramatically between warm afternoons and cold nights
  • A waterproof jacket (not just rain, but early morning cold on the trails)
  • Warm evening clothes — a heavier fleece, a beanie, and comfortable boots for exploring the village at night
  • Hiking boots
  • Camera or make sure your phone is charged — the fall colors are worth photographing properly
